No. 1 Tennessee rolls past Missouri to build win streak

No. 1 Tennessee scores 72 to Missouri’s 60 at basketball to remain undefeated in the SEC.

Another team up against the Vols, another team down.

The No. 1 ranked Tennessee Volunteers (21-1, 9-0 SEC) secured yet another victory on Tuesday night against the unranked Missouri Tigers (11-10, 2-7 SEC). Tennessee’s 72-60 win was decisive as the Vols held a secure lead for the majority of the game.

Note: While the Tennessee Volunteers secured yet another victory, this victory was different. This was not just another offensive performance driven by Grant Williams or Admiral Schofield, though the two certainly played their parts.

The win over Missouri took the entire Tennessee team, with four different Volunteers scoring double digit points.

Tennessee’s prospects moving forward look bright after the Volunteers proved that they can win without leaning too heavily on Williams or Schofield, each of whom scored 13 of Tennessee’s 72 points against Missouri.

In addition, Tennessee’s bench also added 20 points on the night to go along with the 52 points scored by the starters.

Similarly, Missouri also had no standout scorer. Tennessee’s higher field goal percentage, (49.1 percent to Missouri’s 35.4 percent) proved to be a decisive factor in the Vols’ win.

Missouri was able to keep it close in the first half, going into the locker rooms down six. On the contrary, Tennessee’s defense attested too stout for the Tigers to seize momentum and mount an effective comeback.

Tennessee led Missouri in all major defensive categories including steals, blocks and defensive rebounds.

With this win over Missouri, Tennessee remains undefeated in the SEC. The Vols have won 17 consecutive games, with their last and only loss coming against Kansas.

Coming up, Florida travels to Knoxville to take on Tennessee. Tipoff is slated for Saturday at 4 p.m. in Thompson-Boling Arena.
