The player of the game for last Saturday’s matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs was none other than junior quarterback, Joshua Dobbs.

Facing a 24-3 deficit, Dobbs led the now 3-3 Volunteers to a huge 38-31 comeback win against the No. 19 Georgia Bulldogs. The win was the Vols’ first against UGA since 2009 and the second-largest comeback win in Neyland Stadium history.

Dobbs finished with a career-high 312 passing yards, throwing for three touchdowns. He added 118 yards on the ground and ran across the checkerboards twice to account for all five of Tennessee’s touchdowns. The junior quarterback racked up 430 of the Volunteers’ 519 total yards on offense.

This performance was just the second time in history that a Tennessee quarterback has thrown for over 300 yards and ran for at least 100 in a single game. The first instance? A sophomore aerospace engineering major did it in his first start of the 2014 season in a comeback win against South Carolina. Oh yeah, that was also Dobbs.

Dobbs is among Southeastern Conference legends Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel as the only SEC quarterbacks to pass for 300 yards and rush for 100 over the last 20 years.

After Saturday’s exceptional performance, Dobbs became the recipient of SEC Offensive Player of the Week, Athlon Sports’ offensive player of the week, and a nominee for the Capital One Impact Performance of the Week.

This week, the choice was easy.
