On Friday night at 7:30 p.m., the University of Tennessee hosted comedian Ronnie Jordan, who has become more and more common within the American standup comedy circuit. His act is part of his “College Material Tour,” in which Jordan travels to various college campuses throughout the nation. The show was held in the University Center.

The opening act for Jordan was Yohancé Collins, an up and coming stand-up comedian. Collins has performed on MTV’s “Yo Momma” and on TV One’s “Whose Got Jokes”. Collins was received positively by the attending crowd during his time on stage, claiming he simply wanted to “get everyone warmed up to Jordan.”

As for Jordan, Friday night’s performance was nothing new to the seasoned comedian, whose professional accolades date back to 2001, in which the Uptown Comedy Corner in Atlanta, Georgia crowned him “Rookie of the Year.” Since then, Jordan has found himself performing with the likes of Dave Chappelle and being featured on BET’s “Comic View.”

Jordan’s jokes varied across a wide variety of subjects, ranging from personal gripes, to sight gags and racial and sexual jokes. Nobody in the audience was safe from his comic jabs and he proved early on they came quick and without warning.

“I didn’t really know what to expect when he came up on stage,” said Damian Green, a sophomore at the UT, “but I like how he kept it real about some stuff. He had me rolling after a while.” Jordan also incorporated music into some of his jokes with the help of his personal DJ.

At the end of his performance, Ronnie thanked the crowd for coming out to see him on several occasions and also offered to sign autographs after the show.

Ronnie will continue his tour throughout the country delivering standup to college campuses.
