Michelle La Vone was born in Nashville, TN on January 22, 1990. She attended Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet High School for six years and is currently a sophomore at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Journalism and Electronic Media. She plans on taking the Science Communication track to gain experience in environmental writing. She hopes to one day be able to travel the globe and write stories for National Geographic or a similar magazine. Among the things she enjoys are nature, the internet, traveling, food, intellect, her family and friends, and writing. She joined the TNJN network in January 2009.

Dean Kopsell, associate professor in plant sciences here at the university, actually researched the topic with his twin brother, who studies in the same field.
