The expansion in 1962 included the west side upper deck and a new press box which was dedicated at the Alabama game. Gen. Neyland didn't live to see the new addition due to his death.

By 1976, the southeast upper deck was completed adding 10,000 seats.

The last major expansion of Neyland can in 1965 with additions in the north end upper deck. The stadium now seated over 100,000 fans and since that time, there has not been a crowd of less that 100,000.

Traditions are what make Neyland stadium so invigorating. The Pride of the Southland band is at every game to help fans sing Rocky Top as loud as they can.

Since the last major expansion, Volunteer fans have packed the stadium every year to cheer on the Big Orange.

The record attendance at Neyland stadium was set on September 18, 2004 against the Florida Gators. Fans piled in and reached a number of 109,061 people. The Vols beat the Gators 30-28.

The largest expansion came in 1948 adding more seats to the south end of the stadium along with more dorm rooms, athletic department offices and changing rooms for visitors. The homecoming game that year against Alabama drew in 48,000 fans.

Four expansions were made between the years 1926 and 1938 with additions to both the east and the west sides along with dorm rooms, a reception room and a practice room for the band.

Col. W.S. Shields suggested an athletic filed be built in 1919 and two years later, the completed stadium contained 3,200 seats on the west side of the field.
