Cliff Chartrand is a senior in Journalism and Electronic Media and is the current sports editor for TNJN.com. He was born and raised in Clarksville, Tenn., where he attended Rossview High School.
In July 2009, Chartrand was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime when he was offered an internship in Studio Production at ESPN. He moved to Central Connecticut two months later for the 10-week internship and returned to UT for his final semester in the Spring of 2010. After graduation he hopes to return to Bristol, Conn., to resume work at ESPN.
The senior credits much of his success to three individuals. His mother, a middle school English teacher, played a big role in the development of his writing and editing skills, while his father's love for sports rubbed off on Cliff at an early age. It was his grandfather, Mike Ellis, who brought an 8-year old Cliff to Neyland Stadium for the first time and instilled a love for all things Tennessee.
Chartrand started as a sports writer at TNJN in its second semester of existence. He then spent one year as sports editor and one year as managing editor. He has also worked as a contract editor with Scripps Networks, a stringer for various newspapers in Tennessee, a host and producer of WUTK's Rock Solid Sports and an editorial intern with CountryHound.com.
