Rob Baldus is a senior in Journalism and Electronic Media at UT. He was born in Knoxville, and attended Powell High School. There, he worked on The Panther Prowl, his high school newspaper. During his senior year there, he was made editor-in-chief of the monthly publication.
After his high school graduation in 2005, Baldus began his journey at the University of Tennessee. He began his studies in the College of Business, but after a few courses, he decided that accounting and business administration weren't the path for him.
Then, remembering his Journalistic times in high school, Baldus joined the College of the Communication. At the beginning of spring semester of 2008, Baldus began writing for TNJN's Arts and Culture section. When the semester ended and the editor graduated, Baldus asked to be made the new Arts and Culture editor.
During the spring of 08, Baldus attended TNJN's Media Convergence Week. The panel speakers during this experience changed his life forever. At the final dinner, Baldus met Alice Wirth, wife of the CCI's Dean Wirth, who was beginning a new society on campus (Diversity Student Leaders Society).
A couple of weeks later, Baldus went to the club's meeting where he quickly began taking on responsibilities, including becoming the Web Coordinator for the organization.
In the summer of 2008, Baldus also began interning at Knoxville's favorite alt-weekly, The Metro Pulse. This internship gave him the opportunity to experience journalism first hand. While working, Baldus moderated comments, wrote copy, edited copy, began filling out the new online restaurant and bar guides, assisted in story research, and worked with the Arts & Entertainment editor to keep the calendar up-to-date.
With fall of 08 beginning, Baldus is still working at The Metro Pulse for a practicum. He also works as Arts and Culture editor for TNJN.
