Before beginning his pursuit of a doctorate in journalism at the University of Tennessee in 2005, Jim had worked with student journalists for six years as adviser of student publications and adjunct communication instructor at Harding University in Searcy, Ark. The student newspaper and yearbook he advised – the Bison and the Petit Jean – each have won prestigious national awards from organizations including the Associated Collegiate Press and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
The husband of Sara and father of Laura, Jim teaches courses in editing, graphics and news writing. His research interests include communication law, history of journalism education in America, and new media. He is also an avid fly-fisherman and baseball fan.
