Before starting UT's Ph.D. program in communication and information, Allyson Beutke DeVito worked in broadcast and print journalism as well as media relations. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Florida in Gainesville and worked at WUFT-FM-a National Public Radio affiliate-as a reporter, producer and anchor. She has received Florida Associated Press awards and a Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Award for her reporting.
During her master's work, Allyson produced a television documentary that was screened at several state and national film festivals. Behind Closed Doors: The Dark Legacy of the Johns Committee recounts the story of a Florida legislative committee designed to weed out communism and homosexuality at state universities during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Allyson also has experience in media relations, serving as the communications coordinator for UF's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She was editor of the college's alumni magazine and oversaw the production of graphics projects, web site development and special events.
At UT, Allyson teaches JEM 200 and JEM 311. She also serves as the assistant faculty advisor to TNJN .
She is a native Floridian and enjoys watching football, especially when the Gators play the Vols.
