Gay Street Bridge in downtown Knoxville closed Wednesday for several hours while Knoxville Police Department kept a person from jumping off into the Tennessee River.

Police cars blocked both ends and directed traffic away from the area.

The Gay Street Bridge is currently the only direct connector between downtown Knoxville and South Knoxville while Henley Bridge is under construction. 

The name and sex of the jumper is currently unknown.
