The dance group MOMIX Botanica came to UT's campus and performed at the Clarence Brown Theater Tuesday and Wednesday night.

MOMIX Botanica is a traveling dance based in Washington, Connecticut, composed of ten dancers, 5 male and 5 female. Cultural Attractions Committee brought MOMIX to UT's campus as a source of cultural entertainment for the Knoxville Area.

Meredith Whitfield, CAC Chair, said MOMIX gives students on campus a chance to see dance in a way that they've never seen before.

"Lots of students like to have more musical acts come to campus, but part of our rule on campus is to bring things that maybe students wouldn't otherwise see," Whitfield said. "We think that this is cultural because it's interpretive," Whitfield said. "Our mission to bring MOMIX is interpretive and I think that enables us more than it disables us because we can bring quite a variety of things as long as we can say why we think it's cultural."

Steven Marshall, a dancer of MOMIX, has been dancing for the company for eight and a half years.

"No other dance company does what we do," Marshall said. "We really strive to not make every thing look too gymnastic. If it's good theater, that will be a good way to describe MOMIX."

This MOMIX casts' next stop is home to Connecticut before the start rehearsal once more.

"We have been the Michigan, Georgia, and South Carolina, kind of hopping around," Marshall said. "We get to go home tomorrow, but then the next day it's back to rehearsal," Marshall said.

MOMIX Botanica is about to launch 3 different troops of ten dancers each around the world including France, Italy, Spain, and the United States.
