Relix theatre is hosting Listen Up Knoxville, a free open mic acoustic night starting Mondays at 8:00 p.m., with tryouts for musicians starting at 7:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, whether they want to perform or simply watch.

The rules for performers are simple: you have ten minutes on stage to do whatever you'd like.

Listen Up Knoxville is an excellent place for fledgling musicians to test their wings. Hostess Anne Frishberg said, "It's where you prep before you become the rock star.  It's where you work the kinks out."

Performers are judged on their songwriting, performance, originality, and ability to play their instrument. One winner is chosen each night to proceed to the final showdown on December 1, although everyone may continue to play on Mondays if they choose.

The grand prize for winning the final showdown is recording time with Famous London Recording Studio, a poster design by Mark Friebus, and an opening gig for a high-profile show at Relix Theatre.

Relix Theatre is located in northern downtown Knoxville at 1208 North Central St.
