Members of SPEAK, or Students Promoting Environmental Action in Knoxville, held a movie showing to raise student awareness about fair, local and organic food.
Food, Inc. provides a look at corporate markets in the farming industry, focusing heavily on the differences between factory farming and free range farming.
According to Food, Inc., factory farming and unsanitary conditions can lead to E.Coli contamination, a bacterium that can be spread from animal feces to the factory workers.

Free range cows, chickens and pigs are not confined to cages and silos. Cows that roam free eat the natural grasses of the earth as opposed to eating grains and corn that are unnatural to their diet. If not free range, packaged poultry, white meats and red meats are pumped full of steroids and antibiotics that travel through the bloodstream.
The Organic Trade Association defines organic farming and production as free of pesticides and fertilizers. Pesticides can seep into the earth's soils, which can have negative environmental effects. If not organic, most fruits and vegetables run a high risk for chemical contamination, according to Food, Inc.
"I am more aware of what I purchase to eat," said Holly Rainey, a junior in journalism and electronic media.
Organic food may be more expensive, but can be richer in vitamins and minerals than non-organic food, said a healthy eating made easy Web site.
"I knew most of this information. I am a little more conscious about my food choices in trying to cut out fast foods," said sophomore Jordan Kemmer.
