Spring is here and that means several campus organizations will be holding spring recruitment. Part of the recruitment process includes going through a few rounds of interviews.

Many freshmen hoping to get involved on campus now have an exciting opportunity to prepare for these interview processes with SGA's Student Organization Interview Workshop.

The event will take place Feb. 3 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the University Center rooms 226 and 227. The event will include two mock interview sessions and a workshop to give students the best preparation possible for upcoming recruitment.

The purpose of the event is to expose students to sample interview questions from each participating organization. This will help them have a better idea of what to expect in an actual interview. It will also encourage new students to get involved in campus organizations.

We felt we could help students prepare for these interviews because they are quite different from job interviews.
Jamie Lonie, SGA Student Services director

"We know that there are dozens of interview rounds hosted by various student groups during the spring," said Jamie Lonie, SGA student services director. " We felt we could prepare for these interviews because they are quite different from job interviews."

The first interview session will be held from 1:15 – 2 p.m. and the workshop will be from 2:15 – 3 p.m. The second interview session will be from 3:15 – 4 p.m.  These times were planned to serve students during class changes so that they may come before, after or between classes.

Members of the SGA New Student Relations Committee, Student Orientation and Leadership Development and the Career Services will act as mock interviewers. These groups will provide feedback and give tips to help students feel comfortable with both group and one-on-one interviews.

Participating organizations include Student Alumni Associates, Ambassador Scholars, Orange Pride, ME4UT, Central Programming Council, SOLD and United Residence Halls Council.

"We are excited to have the input of all of these organizations, and we hope to give students an extra edge on these interviews," said Lonie.

Interested students are encouraged to RSVP to sga3@utk.edu.
