Since 1973, college students across the country have been partnering with the Children’s Miracle Network in an effort to raise money for children with cancer and other blood-related diseases. The concept is Dance Marathon, an all-night event where students vow to stay awake in honor of the children who cannot sleep during their chemotherapy treatments. The event will be held at the TRECS on UT-Knoxville's campus at 7 p.m. this Friday.
There will be food provided by local sponsors, as well as entertainment from local bands.
The members of the Dance Marathon staff take it one step further by hosting “Hospital Parties” throughout the year, where they visit the hospital and spend time with the kids. “They are so happy and gracious that you are there, it is really heart warming. Its like they expect nothing and appreciate everything,” says Amanda Dail, Dance Marathon Media Relations Coordinator. Dail says they are hoping to reach a goal of $60,000 for the children.
