Super Bowl Sunday is finally upon us, and several members of the staff at TNJN.com took a few minutes to provide their predictions for the big game. Thirteen of the 19 participating members predict a Colts victory. Sixteen of the respondents predicted a final score, with the average of those equaling out to a 31-30 win for Peyton Manning and the Colts.
Cliff Chartrand, TNJN.com sports editor: I think Lil Wayne said it best: "I am a New Orleans Saint, and to the Houston Texans I'd like to say thanks. Reggie Bush baby! Reggie Bush baby! Drew Brees, Marques Colston, Sean Payton." All of those guys, and a few more, come up big. Saints 34-31
Grant Ramey, TNJN.com assistant sports editor: I don't know anything about football, but I think Drew Brees' mole/scar is super hott. Saints 34, Colts 28
Clay Seal, TNJN.com assistant sports editor: In a way, it pains me to even pick a winner. Pitting Peyton Manning against Drew Brees gives us the extremely elusive "good vs. good" Super Bowl match up. Even though the Colts bring a way better defense to championship game than they did a couple of years ago, Dwight Freeney not being 100 percent makes me worry. I think they Saints win, breaking the game open in the fourth quarter. Saints 38-21
Wade Rackley, TNJN.com photographer extraordinaire: I will select a coin and this will determine the winner and final score. Drum roll please...Okay here we go...and it's a quarter! A New Hampshire quarter! Here are the facts on the quarter: est. 1788, "Live free or die", and "Old Man of the Mountain". Okay an old man wins, Peyton Manning is 33 years old, Drew Brees is 31. Colts win 33-31.
Kevin Connelly, TNJN.com sports writer: The Colts have yet to lose a game they tried to win this year. As long as the weather is nice, Peyton Manning proves to be too much for the Saints in Miami. Colts 31-27
Mike Pablo, TNJN.com sports writer: Peyton Manning and co. will prove too much for the New Orleans Saints defense. Colts win in a close shootout. Colts 34-28
Austin Bornheim, TNJN.com sports writer: The Saints defense doesn't have an answer for Peyton Manning and the Colts offense. Colts jump out to an early lead and the Saints are left playing catch-up all game. Colts 31-21
Mark McNabb, TNJN.com radio director: I think it's time the Saints win one. They've always been the underdog and the butt of every NFL joke, but this year they have really shown everyone that even the most underrated teams have a shot. I'm also pulling for them because I'm originally from South Mississippi, and they were the team everybody loved. But then again, if they won, all the 'Saints winning the Super Bowl' jokes wouldn't apply anymore. Saints 24-21
Kayla Thompson, TNJN.com sports writer: I think the Colts will win the Super Bowl. I think this because Manning and his receivers are amazing, and no one can stop them. Colts 34-17
Tommy Oler, TNJN.com arts and culture editor: If they don't win by this much I'm $500 in the hole because I don't properly know how to work 3 different sports betting sites. God help me I need that $500 for rent. The wonders of Everclear never cease to amaze me. (Editor's note: This is, of course, hypothetical. You know, if online gambling was "legal.") Colts 38-35
Kayla Kitts, TNJN.com news editor: Manning will make more plays for the Colts. Colts 34-28
Summer Johnson, TNJN.com news director: I think the Saints will win because because my boyfriend and my brother both think so, and because I like their cute little logo. P.S. I hate football. Saints win, no score prediction
Ben Moser, TNJN.com editor-in-chief: Peyton speaks Gaelic to the O-line. What more do you need? Colts 38-35
Rayshawn Lanier, TNJN.com newscast director: I pick the Colts. Overall defense seems to be better, and also Greg Williams could not stop Peyton Manning last season when he was the defensive coordinator with the Jaguars. Nothing will change with the Saints. Colts win, no score prediction
Nicholas Leffew, TNJN.com sports writer: The deciding factor will be the defenses, but Peyton Manning outshines Drew Brees in a great Super Bowl. Colts 35-31
Zack Crane, TNJN.com assistant photo editor: The Colts will ride to victory on a carpet of sheer awesomeness springing spontaneously from Peyton's Laser Rocket Arm. That is all. Colts win, no score prediction
Andrew Aaron, TNJN.com promotions director: The Colts offensive line protects Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees is a very accurate passer. The Key match-up will be between the defensive coordinators, Gregg Williams for the Saints and Larry Coyer for the Colts. The Saints run an aggressive scheme, which is prone to allowing the big play, while the Colts run a more traditional cover-2, allowing opposing teams to run the football. Colts 28-24
Austin Stanley, TNJN.com sports writer: This year I really don't know what is going to happen. I will pick the Saints right now. I think that the injury of Dwight Freeney will have much more of an impact than most people think. The overall speed of the Colts defense will hurt because of his absence. This is one of the hardest Super Bowls to pick because the quarterbacks will be so well prepared. Saints 45-27
Gina Hudson, TNJN.com assistant arts and culture editor: My prediction is a very close game, but only if Reggie Bush brings it. I think Robert Meachem will also be a big target through the air for Drew Brees, provided the run game opens up the pass. With that said, I think the Colt defense will come prepared, and Manning will find Dallas Clark for some big yards. Colts 33-30 (overtime)
