The United Residence Halls Council will once again host VOLympics Sunday, Feb. 4 at HPER. The event is open to all students currently living in residence halls.
"[VOLympics] is a fun activity. [URHC] should be able to get a lot of people involved; it builds community among the residence halls," Danny Waltman, URHC national communications coordinator, said.
Waltman said there will be free pizza for everyone in attendance, which is also free, but only residents of the residence halls can compete. The goal is for the residents to bond with other people from their community while meeting new people from across campus in a friendly and competitive environment.
"I think one of the main goals is to get buildings interacting with one other. It's about everyone being there with one another and to get halls to work with and against each other," Dan Stypa, URHC advisor, said regarding the event.

Stypa hopes residence hall associations take advantage of the great opportunity for a large scale program of their own. The event ends at 3:30 p.m., leaving plenty of time for community-building Super Bowl programs once the residents return to their halls.
Waltman wanted to point out there will be prizes for first, second and third place at VOLympics. He also said there will be 10 or more unique competitions including tug-of-war, dizzy bat and potato-sack races.
The URHC executive board will be looking back over the past few years to see what goals were not accomplished and VOLympics was one of the things that caught their attention. VOLympics is a great opportunity for students to build relationships with people from other buildings they wouldn't otherwise meet, Stypa said.
Waltman, who has been on the executive board in the past, said the main reason for not having a VOLympics in prior years was the lack of available facilities. He knows this event is crucial to URHC gaining momentum going into the heart of the spring semester.
