The 8th annual Volapalooza: Kickoff to Commencement begins at 6 p.m. on April 30 in World's Fair Park. The bands will come on around 7 p.m. Unlike last year, admission for students is free. However, a general admission ticket will be $15. This year's Volapalooza has drastically changed and calls for a much more exciting event.
The Campus Entertainment Board and Student Government Association have collaborated this year to provide an amazing event. Volapalooza now consists of three acts from three separate genres to entertain everyone's taste. Hip-hop artist Asher Roth will open up the concert. Indie band Passion Pit will headline the event. Also, special guests Flogging Molly will be performing thanks to the Cultural Attractions Committee. You can expect an amazing show. Michelle Swing, Volapalooza committee member
Andrew Garber, Volapalooza Director for CEB, stated, "We believe that the diversity of the bands, the change of venue, and the free tickets will result in the best Volapalooza yet."
The change in venue from Fiji Island to The World's Fair Park Performance lawn is due to CEB and SGA teaming up and combining Volapalooza and The Kickoff to Commencement into one event for the first time ever. They feel that World's Fair Park is a much better venue. The park will also be able to host a much larger crowd and event.
"We're really excited to be there this year," Whitney Bertram, Special Events Director for CEB, said.
For the commencement side of the event, graduating seniors can go to the venue to receive free food and beverages from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., right before the gates open. There will also be food and beverages provided during the actually event, however they will not be free of charge.
Volapalooza had brought in acts such Cake, Dashboard Confessional, Ben Folds Five, Reel Big Fish, and Gym Class Heroes. However, this year is expected to be bigger and better.
