Students will be able to use various rooms throughout the University Center until 1 a.m. most nights during final exams. The UC will relieve some of the stress on Hodges Library during peak study hours for finals.
Ross Rowland, student government executive elect, and Courtney Sharp, student government public relations director elect, have worked with campus administrators to make this happen for students.
"Most people think of the UC to grab a bite to eat or go for an organization's meeting," Rowland said.
The goal is to change student's mindset of the UC. With a new UC planned for 2013, students should know the UC can offer them more than food.
"UT is trying to make the UC a more central part of our campus," Sharp said.
Hodges Library is the mainstay for late-night studying during finals. The problem is that it can become difficult to study there because of overcrowding.

"It becomes a social event at times, 'Club Hodges'," Rowland said.
"It's a really distracting environment to go study," Sharp said.
Starbucks and the Candy Counter will be open during these extended hours as well. This should help students feel comfortable in a new study environment.
"We change the culture and idea of studying," Rowland said.
Rowland and Sharp worked with Jim Dittrich, director of the UC, and Mark Rozanski, assistant director of the UC, to find a way to help students during this stressful time.
Students will need to bring their student ID cards to get into the building. A card swipe will be required to keep the building safe and reserved for students only.
The UC was chosen for its convenient location and available security. Dean of Students Maxine Davis advised Rowland and Sharp after the two brought the student's concern to her.
"We are really grateful for the administration and their helpfulness during the situation," Sharp said.
