Gamer has received mixed reviews across the board since its pre-screenings, but that must depend on what you might be looking for in a movie. If you are looking for a gritty, thrilling action flick with plenty of guts and gore then you need to look no further. For an hour and a half Kable (Butler) is splitting heads and breaking necks, with relative few moments away from the action.
Gerard Butler plays a death row inmate known as Kable that must compete in a game, controlled by others, to try to win over his freedom. Kable/John Tillman's "player" is a boy named Simon Silverman played by Logan Lerman that becomes one of the most famous people in the world due to his success as Kable's player. KenIf you are looking for a gritty, thrilling action flick with plenty of guts and gore than you need look no further. Castle (Michael C. Hall), who created the game known as Slayers, becomes the antagonist of the movie as it unfolds and creates many problems for both Kable and any involved.
Although the movie had thrilling action sequences with some drama tossed in, it carried a much deeper message to the viewers. It shows the problems that could happen in a world centralized around mass media. Providing explicit references to the depravity that can be humanity, it provides an eye-opening example of what could be a possible outcome of mass media control.
All in all, it was a satisfying film with great special effects, a look into some future technologies and an interesting underlying message. If you want to see a witty film with great dialogue, then this flick isn't for you, but if you want to see non-stop action and constant thrill, then Gamer is a must see.
