Knoxville's annual Boomsday celebration begins Sept. 6, and will provide entertainment for the whole family.

The all day celebration includes inflatables, contests, drawings and live performances from the Navy's "Freedom" band.

There are so many people (who) haven't been a tourist in their own city. Sarah Malak, Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation senior manger of public relations Food and beverages from more than 30 different venues will also be available for a minor fee.

And when the sun goes down, enjoy the Southeast's largest firework celebration.

The economy has not put a damper on the cheerful event.

Sarah Malak, Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation senior manager of public relations, said last year Knoxville's Boomsday broke the record by attracting 405,000 visitors.  Malak also said that compared to last year, about the same amount of money was put toward the event.

According to Malak, the presented sponsor, Chrysler-Jeep, is playing up that this is a free event, so there are few excuses for residents and visitors to not enjoy this night of fireworks and entertainment.

"There are so many people (who) haven't been a tourist in their own city,"  she said.
