The Vols basketball team gave a whole new meaning to the word "exhibition" in their Friday night scrimmage win against North Alabama.

No. 10 ranked Tennessee used 20 points from sophomore guard Scotty Hopson, and double-digit scoring efforts from six other Vols, to overpower the Lions 117-79.

"Scotty was more aggressive trying to get to the basket and finding contact," Vols head coach Bruce Pearl said to UTsports.com. "Obviously he was still playing in a bit of a rhythm. That's the best he's shot the ball this year."

Hopson continued his role as leading three-point shooter for the Vols, going 4 of 5 from beyond the arc.

North Alabama wouldn't quite go away, as the halftime score was 58-41. However, the Vols used a 16-4 run early in the second half that gave them a 30-point lead, and essentially put the game away.

We were trying to have controlled chaos out there, but to me it looked like we had more chaos than we had control. Bruce Pearl, Vols head coach

Freshman forward Kenny Hall and Tennessee dominated the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Lions 45-29. Hall had seven rebounds, and went 5 for 5 from the floor for 14 points. Surprisingly though, Hall wishes he and the team had done better.

"I wish I would have gotten more aggressive as far as going toward the board," Hall said. "We need to crash the boards harder, do a better job of boxing out our man and a better job of taking care of the ball."

The Vols came out firing, showing a pace and aggressiveness that wasn't as present last season as it had been with Pearl's other campaigns. Making it look more like a pickup game at T-Recs than a collegiate competition, Vols were dunking and alley-ooping seemingly every possession.

This style lead to sloppy play though, as the Vols committed 26 turnovers.

"We were trying to have controlled chaos out there, but to me it looked like we had more chaos than we had control," Pearl said. "We turned ourselves over way too much and the game was way too sloppy."

By the 15:00 mark in the first half, most of the starters were on the bench, and Pearl got to test out some youth and fresh faces.

Freshman guard Skylar McBee logged 12 points and two rebounds in 21 minutes. Sophomore Renaldo Woolridge, who produces rap songs under the stage name Swiperboy, had 12 points in just 13 minutes.

The Vols have one more exhibition game on Wednesday against Lincoln Memorial, before they kick off the regular season at home against Austin Peay Nov. 13 at 9 p.m.
