The Tennessee Volunteers (3-4, 1-3 SEC) will square off against the No.22 South Carolina Gamecocks Halloween night in Neyland Stadium.

While Lane Kiffin may have envied the ball coach in his youth, Steve Spurrier will show no mercy to Kiffin and the Volunteers on Saturday night.

"We're very excited about this matchup; a great team is coming in here," Kiffin said. "They are ranked in the top 25, and we're able to come home in front of our fans again after last time we were here having such a great day and a great showing. We're really excited about it."

We're very excited about this matchup; a great team is coming in here. Lane Kiffin, UT football coachThe Volunteers' defense will be crucial to an Orange and White victory. The Tennessee defense enters Saturday’s game ranked No. 10 in total defense in all of college football.

Monte Kiffin’s defense has not surrendered a touchdown in more than eight quarters of football dating back to its loss to Auburn in Neyland stadium.

Freshman safety Janzen Jackson hopes he can take advantage of what is sure to be a pass-happy South Carolina offense.

“I kind of want to switch my game up this week," Jackson said. "I told EB (Eric Berry) I’m not going for no more big hits because big hits aren’t a stat. So I am going to try and get some more interceptions."

While Jackson hopes to be receiving interceptions Saturday night, senior signal caller Jonathan Crompton is set on continuing his hot streak and throwing touchdowns. Kiffin and the Tennessee coaching staff have continued to see improvement in Crompton’s play.

"I think he has put together two and a half games of playing really well, going back to the last half of the Auburn game," Kiffin said. "We have a lot of confidence in the way that he is playing."

Crompton will need assistance from tailbacks Montario Hardesty and Bryce Brown in order to move the football efficiently during Saturday’s contest. South Carolina’s mid-season All-American Eric Norwood will be set on stopping the Vols' rushing attack.

Norwood has collected national attention from both Sports News and Sports Illustrated while racking up 48 tackles and two interceptions, one that led to a South Carolina touchdown.

Spurrier will come into Neyland Stadium boosting an 11-7 all-time record against the Volunteers, but Spurrier is a mere 2-2 when facing the Orange and White while at South Carolina.

Lane Kiffin will be looking for just his second SEC win and his first against a ranked opponent when the Gamecocks enter Neyland Stadium. The matchup is set for a 7:45 p.m. kickoff and will be aired on ESPN.
