Vol fans are releasing a sigh of relief as they are finally starting to see some consistencies at the quarterback position.

After struggling through his first 11 career starts as the starting quarterback, Jonathan Crompton and the entire passing game is starting to hit its stride. The improvements have come somewhat drastically and the effect they have had on the team is equally as significant.

"He's playing a lot and he is playing as well as anybody in the conference. I believe he has four more touchdown passes than Tim Tebow," said head coach Lane Kiffin, in a press conference on Tuesday, who believed in Crompton even when fans begged for a change at quarterback.

At the beginning of the season Crompton appeared to be up for another season of disappointment, throwing seven interceptions in the first three games. In the past four games Crompton has only thrown three interceptions. This, in addition to passing a career high 310 yards against Georgia and throwing for 265 yards against the top-ranked Alabama defense, has many fans changing their opinion.

"He has definitely improved from last season and early this season until now. He's finally starting to look like the top recruit we signed coming out of high school" said Levi Buck, a sophomore and long time Tennessee fan.

Crompton has had a tough road since he joined the Volunteers as a five star recruit in 2005. Due to several coaching changes, Crompton has had to learn three different offensive systems in three years, a feat difficult for even the most talented of quarterbacks.

"Its easy to understand how he has struggled. This is his third offensive system in three years. Peyton Manning has only had three systems since high school," commented Jonathan Wiesehugel, a senior at the University of Tennessee.

As Crompton continues to improve so does his increasing fan support.  All Tennessee fans can do now is hope this trend continues as the Volunteers finish up the five games left in 2009.
