Athletes from Virgina Tech and the Universities Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee competed at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatics Center in the second Tennessee Invitational for three days of men's and women's swimming and diving. Entering the competition, the Volunteers were ranked 10th in the nation.
The swim meet events commenced Thursday, Nov 19 and concluded Saturday, Nov 21. When all was over, the Vols finished with second place, bested by the University of Kentucky, 1147.5 - 1188.5. Tennessee scored 604 in men's competition and 543.5 in women's, securing first place victories in both men's and women's 100 yd backstroke as well as the men's 200 yd medley relay and the men's 400 yd individual medley. Alabama placed third in overall competition with a score of 1062.5 and Virgina Tech came in fourth with 949.5.
The Vols next swim in the Georgia Diving Invitational, Jan 3-5, and following the diving competition will meet Virgina at Charlottesville on Jan. 9.
