Freshman safety Janzen Jackson has been cleared by head coach Lane Kiffin to rejoin team activities effective Tuesday. Charges of attempted aggravated robbery against Jackson were dropped on Monday.

"As I've said before, we wanted to take our time to get all the information regarding this situation," Kiffin said.

"These were very serious allegations, and we had to make sure we handled this properly.  After an extensive and thorough investigation by the Knoxville Police Department and the District Attorney's office, they have cleared Janzen of any wrong doing and determined he had no prior knowledge of this incident."

"Janzen will join team activities today."

Former Vols Nu'Keese Richardson and Mike Edwards, both freshmen, were arrested on Nov. 12 along with Jackson at the Pilot convenience store on Cumberland Avenue on charges of attempted aggravated robbery. Kiffin dismissed Richardson and Edwards from the football program last week.

Both Richardson and Edwards return to court Jan. 20 for a preliminary hearing.

"We hold our student-athletes to an extremely high standard on and off the field. Janzen has seen the effect personal decisions had on his former teammates and is excited to rejoin our team activities.”

The investigation done by the KPD found that Jackson and fellow UT student Marie Montmarquet had no prior knowledge of botched holdup before it occurred.

Montmarquet, who drove the 2010 Toyota Prius the three football players fled the scene in, faces misdemeanor drug charges.

Jackson's attorney said Monday that Jackson never got out of the back seat of the Prius during the holdup and was unaware of what had happened until after they had left the scene.
