7:09: Tennessee wins the State Farm Tip-Off Classic. Final, Tennessee 74, Baylor 65.
7:06 Shekinna Stricklen is still hustling with less than a minute remaining. She dove for a loose ball at mid-court and came up empty, then leaped up, sprinted to the hoop and grabbed a defensive rebound. Tennessee 72, Baylor 62.
7:02: Kelley Cain fouls out. As Griner heads to the line, Cain gathers her teammates and gives them some words of encouragement. Tennesse 70, Baylor 59.
6:37: Griner has come back into the game but seems to be a non-factor. Guard Kamiko Williams is looking good and Tennessee is starting to run away with this one. Baylor timeout. Tennessee 52, Baylor 38.
6:30: Freshman Kamiko Williams ripped the ball right from the hands of a Lady Bear and picked up an assist on Brewer's layup to put the momentum back on Tennessee's side. Griner has been on the bench for over 5 minutes. Tennessee 46, Baylor 38.
6:26: Sloppy passing and fouls have slowed Tennessee. Baylor is now within two, 38-36.
6:12: The crowd is going nuts, the Lady Vols are dominating Griner and Baylor in the first three minutes of the second half and now lead 34-26. A Bjorklund three leads to a Baylor timeout.
6:09: After Cain swats a pass away from the clutches of Griner, Tennessee freshman Taber Spani makes the first basket of her career to tie the game at 26.
5:54: The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2010 is announced on the court. This year's inductees are Teresa Weatherspoon, Rebecca Lobo, Teresa Edwards, Leta Andrews, and Chris Weller. The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame is located in downtown Knoxville.
5:49: Halftime. Baylor 26, Tennessee 24. Glory Johnson lays in her first basket of the season over Griner with seconds remaining to cut Baylor's lead to two.
5:43 The men's basketball team has arrived to cheer on the Lady Vols after their practice next door. Unfortunately, Bruce isn't painted up this time, and yes, he is wearing a shirt.
5:37: Stricklen responds with a turnaround jumper to pull Tennessee within three, 21-17
5:34: Griner swats a Shekinna Stricklen layup into the first row.
5:22: The large Thompson-Boling crowd boos vehemently as Brewer picks up her second questionable foul while guarding Griner. Griner hits three of her four free throws.
5:12: Cain and Alyssia Brewer have kept Griner in check, she's 0-3 from the field with a single rebound. Bjorklund has been the offensive star, knocking down two trifectas as Tennessee leads 10-3 with under 15 minutes left in the first half.
5:07: Baylor head coach and Hall of Famer Kim Mulkey calls the first timeout after Angie Bjorklund drained a three to put Tennessee up 5-0.
5:04: Cain strikes first. Kelley Cain grabs an offensive rebound and lays in the first basket of the 09-10 Lady Vols season, Tennessee leads 2-0.
Pre-Game: No. 7 Baylor comes into Thompson-Boling to open the season with the nationally televised State Farm Classic. The Lady Bears boast the nation's No. 1 recruit in center Brittney Griner. Check out Griner's spectacular dunks on Youtube. The 6'8" freshman had 25 points and 11 rebounds in Baylor's final exhibition game against University of the Incarnate Word.
Lady Vols center Kelley Cain will be charged with the task of stopping Griner. However, Cain can put up some offensive numbers herself. The 6'6" sophomore averaged 18 points and 14 boards in Tennessee's exhibition games.
