Health care bill provides political leverage

With Barack Obama's health care bill passing through the House of Representatives late Saturday night, the public option takes one more step closer to becoming a reality for United States citizens. The bill must now pass through a senate vote before it can take effect in 2013.

The bill's 1,018 pages is full of bureaucratic rhetoric intended to confuse the average American. The government apparently does not want the American citizen to understand the laws regarding health care reform.

Democrats and Republicans have polarized our political system by abusing social issues to gain power.

Do not believe that either political party has the intention of doing what is best for you. The politicians in this country do not care about the effects of universal health care on the public. They only care about how it will effect the 2010 and 2012 elections.

The Democrats are just trying to ride out the Obama wave with this bill into 2012 with a second term. This is why Obama chose 2013 for the launch year of the Public Option, to ensure the effects of the bill would have no bearing on the election.

At the other end of this spectrum are the Republicans who are using fear and an army of creepy radio talk show hosts to project the message of "traditional" conservative values. They want to promote a climate of constant fear to evoke disdain for anything that might threaten the great American dream of clean suburbs, mega churches and a transcontinental parade of mini-malls.

Democrats and Republicans have polarized our political system by abusing social issues to gain power. Health care reform is just another victim. Room for intellectual and philosophic thought has been eliminated. In its place politicians have forced the American people into choosing one party's solution over the other.

The real solution for health care and other social issues must begin with eliminating any association with the Republican and Democratic parties. These are institutions to make you assimilate into a consumerism-based lifestyle, keeping you distracted and limiting your voice as a citizen.

People must come together outside the confines of political allegiance if they are to accomplish lasting change. These politicians will use you, and history proves it. Denial of civil rights, elimination of the indigenous population, slavery and the Patriot Act are just handful of examples of how much this government cares about its citizens.

The most important thing you can do as a citizen in this country is inform yourself. Read this bill, and talk about it with your neighbors. Discuss solutions that aren't based off of the competitive dogma of American politics.

Protect and honor your country, not your government.
