The Latin American Student Organization held its culture night highlighting Mexico on Nov. 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. It was the organization's first culture night spoken in both Spanish and English.
The event began with Mexican cuisine, followed by a fashion show of traditional clothing and then a bilingual presentation about Mexico's history, religions, languages, education, music, arts, sports and tourism. We decided to do culture night differently this year. Aristides Armas, president of the Latin American Student Organization
Having both Spanish and English spoken during culture night gave the event more authenticity, according to president of the Latin American Student Organization, Aristides Armas.
"We decided to do culture night differently this year and have the presentation in both Spanish and English," Armas, sophomore in Political Science, said.
Former member of the Latin American Student Organization and bilingual participant of the event, Miguel Gonzalez, enjoyed the change in this year's culture night.
"I enjoyed the slide show presentation because I am fluent in Spanish, and could listen to it in both languages," Gonzalez said.
Each semester the Latin American Student Organization chooses a different country's culture in Latin America is to celebrate for culture night.
Culture night was concluded with a modern Latin dance performance by members of Salsa Knox, the first Latin dance school in Knoxville.
