10:57 p.m. - I bet Bruce Pearl and the Vols are happy this one's over. They have some work to do if they want to keep that top 10 ranking. Final score 83-54, and your Tennessee Volunteers start the season 1-0.
10:52 p.m. - Melvin Goins has been great defensively, has distributed the ball well, and has five points. He's playing with great energy during his time on the court. Vols are up 77-50 with 2:16 left.
10:45 p.m. - Just over four minutes left in the game, the Vols are trying to stay calm and wrap this thing up. 66-48, Vols. 69-48 with a three-pointer from Melvin Goins as the shot clock expired, as I'm typing.
10:35 p.m. - Austin Peay understands a layup score is better than a missed dunk. I wish Tennessee could figure that out. The Vols are playing more controlled, but it's not great. Vols are up 58-41 with eight minutes to go.
10:23 p.m. - The Vols have used a 15-5 run, including two three-pointers from Cameron Tatum, to get a little bit of separation here at the 13:33 mark. Tyler Smith quietly has 12 points. 46-30, Vols advantage.
9:56 (Halftime) - Austin Peay has lost all seven prior meetings with Tennessee, but I don't think they have any idea. I wouldn't say they're keeping up, so much as the Vols are playing down. Anytime Tennessee attempted to speed up the tempo or get a quick counter going, they lost the ball. Tennessee is only 1 of 4 on free throws, and they are barely winning on the boards, 19-18. Big Orange cling to a 31-25 lead going into the locker room.
9:42 p.m. - Instant replay suggests Austin Peay's little guard had a charge on Brian Williams. The referees saw it the other way. Skylar McBee really wants that three, he just can't seem to land it. Vols with an unconvincing 29-14 lead with just under four minutes left in the half.
9:32 p.m. - Thank goodness for Scotty Hopson. He has made three of four from beyond the arc for nine points so far. His shots don't take 10 minutes to come back down either. Seriously though, someone else needs to step up and help the effort. Vols lead 25-10.
9:25 p.m. - It doesn't seem like Austin Peay came here to lose, and it seems like the Vols are surprised. The Vols are up 12-5 at the 11:54 mark, and it's been like that for a while. Already there are too many silly turnovers for Tennessee. They've had some good looks in the paint, as well as from beyond the arc, they just need to get the ball in the net.
9:16 p.m. - Vols lead 9-3 with 15:31 left in the half, but this is looking pretty sloppy. There have been a couple overthrown balls as Bobby Maze got greedy trying to find Wayne Chism and Tyler Smith in the paint. However, Scotty Hopson did open the season with a three-point shot.
9:00 p.m. - The Rocky Top Rowdies are insisting that every Austin Peay starter "sucks" as they read their newspapers. I'm not going to open my big mouth just yet. Those fireworks shooting out of the back of the game clock are crazy when you're up this close!
8:39 p.m. - I'm currently in the depths of Thompson-Boling Arena awaiting the start of the No. 10 Vols' regular season opener against Austin Peay. And yes, I know you were wondering about the Cincinnati-West Virginia football game, and it's currently tied at 7, with just a few minutes left in the first quarter.
