Circle Park will be thumping Saturday night thanks to the Chancellor's Honors Program. The Honors Program will be hosting the third annual Masquerade Ball Saturday, Nov. 14 from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Students dressed in their best attire will be converging in a heated tent in Circle Park to enjoy a night of delicious food and dancing. The tunes will be provided by DJ Jason Lovely and masks can be purchased at the door.
Tickets to the Masquerade Ball are available for sale on the Pedestrian Mall for $5 until Friday. Students can also buy tickets at the event for $10. All profits from the event will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee.
It's nice to have a charity where we can not only donate money, but also generate interest for college students to get involved with the charity. Kyle Hargrove, honors committee co-chairman
Big Brothers Big Sisters matches troubled or at risk youths with a mentor to help them stay on the right path in life. Donations from the Masquerade Ball will cover some of the costs of matching Knoxville children with their Big Brother or Sister.
The Chancellor's Honors Program has raised at least $2,000 in each of the last two years to benefit various Knoxville children's charities. Honors Events Committee Co-Chairman Kyle Hargrove is particularly excited about this year's beneficiary.
"It's nice to have a charity where we can not only donate money, but also generate interest for college students to get involved with the charity," Hargrove said.
Masquerade Ball is being held on campus for the first time and event organizers are expecting to have an even bigger turnout than in previous years. About 250 people attended events in past years held at Bleak House and World's Fair Park.
Other campus organizations such as Golden Key Honor Society, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Alpha Delta Pi and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars are assisting with Masquerade Ball.
With Tennessee football on the road, Circle Park and Masquerade Ball will be the place to be on campus this weekend.
