Cover Two: Where will the Vols be bowling?

Tennessee is sitting at 4-4 and has a very good shot at ending up at one of three New Year's Day bowl games if they win out, which this team should do. That leaves one important question: which bowl game do the Vols land in?

I'm thinking the Outback Bowl in Tampa Bay, Fla. and here's why.

One must assume Alabama and Florida end up in BCS bowl games, assuming they both win out. That leaves Tennessee second in the SEC East, LSU second in the West, and Auburn most likely finishing behind LSU. After all that we end up with LSU, Tennessee and Auburn for the Capital One, Outback and Cotton Bowl.

The Capital One Bowl usually takes the SEC team that didn't win the SEC Championship, but since Alabama and Florida will both end up in BCS bowl games, they will take the next best available and that would be LSU, with a 10-2 record. After that comes the Outback and Cotton. The Cotton usually takes a team from the West, leaving Auburn to head to Dallas on New Year's Day.

Tennessee, second in the East and fifth in the SEC,  lands an Outback Bowl bid. Yes, Tennessee's last two bowls have been in Tampa Bay (a bid in 2009 would make three Outback Bowls in four years), but after last year's fiasco it's better than Shreveport (Independence) and Nashville (Music City).

Plus, Tennessee will face a Big 10 team, and we all know how bad the Big 10 is.

The buzz around the Tennessee football program is extremely high right now. The Vols are coming off a successful month of October with impressive wins against Georgia and South Carolina, a near upset of Alabama, new black jerseys, and Lil' Wayne giving Lane Kiffin some 'street cred', but through all that Tennessee still stands at 4-4 (2-3 SEC) and fourth in the SEC East

There is no doubt the Vols are playing great football, but it might be games in the beginning of the season that are going to keep the Vols from playing on New Year's Day.

The UCLA game continues to haunt Lane Kiffin and Tennessee every week that UCLA loses - which seemingly happens every week. UCLA is 0-5 in PAC-10 play. You read that correctly - zero-for-everything in the PAC-10

At the time, the Auburn loss didn't look so bad. The Tigers were 5-0, but then they were blown out by Arkansas, lost at home to Kentucky and then suffered another blow out against LSU.

Looking forward, Tennessee's remaining schedule is set up for the Vols to run the table, but there could be two possible roadblocks. First, is against the Ole Miss team that Tennessee assistant coach Ed Orgeron put together. The Rebels were in everyone's preseason top 10, but they have been very inconsistent this year. You never really know which Ole Miss team is going to show up against Tennessee, not to mention the game is in Oxford.

The second roadblock could come against a team that Tennessee has had huge success against: Kentucky. The Vols will be looking to extend their winning streak against the Wildcats to a 25-straight wins, but Kentucky is led by Alcoa product Randall Cobb who will be looking to break the long losing streak against his home-state team.

Tennessee has played at such a high level the past three weeks; they are due for a letdown. The Vols have been the underdog in the majority of their games this year and it will be interesting to see how this team reacts when playing as the favorite.
