Elizabeth Lambert's New Mexico player profile says she is "...fearless when making a challenge..."
Tell me about it.
In their Mountain West Conference Tournament semifinal matchup against BYU on Thursday, Lambert pulled ponytails (with hopes to decapitate), punched, kicked and committed numerous other rule infractions.
Not cool Lambert. Not cool at all.
I've refereed soccer before, and it's tough (so what if they were only 10-year-old boys?). However, when someone's making flagrant plays like all of these, you have to call it, no question. She only got a yellow card late in the game for a mistackle on a BYU striker just outside the penalty box.
Yes, soccer can be a physical sport (despite what stuck-up football fans may say), but this kind of play has no place in the beautiful game.
This might be entertaining to some, but for a sport that's trying to gain ground in America, especially for women, this pitiful display makes a mockery out of all of it. It's really a shame the first thing most of us have ever heard about women's college soccer is about WWE hopeful Lambert the Tyrant.
Lambert was suspended indefinitely today, and she will be unable to participate in any type of training or conditioning with the team.
I would've suggested following Florida's lead, and suspending her for the first half of their next match. After all, she seems like a really nice girl.
