A crowd of 2,183 watched the Ice Bears defeat the Mississippi Surge 3-1. This was Mississippi's first ever trip to Knoxville as a SPHL team.

  • Chris Greene scored 1:23 into the game for Mississippi's only goal.
  • The Ice Bears scored three goals in the second to lead 3-1.
  • A total of 17 penalties were handed out including 10 in the second period.

The Mississippi Surge made the trip from Biloxi, Mississippi to face the Knoxville Ice Bears.  The Surge got off to a quick start when Chris Greene scored 1:23 into the game to take the 1-0 lead.

An explosive second period saw 10 penalties, including a fight between Ryan Bartle and David Segal. At the 3:11 mark, Surge Defenseman Jack Wolgemuth was sent to the box for hooking, giving the Ice Bears a powerplay. Captain Kevin Swider took advantage it and tied the game up at 1.

Three minutes later, David Segal was tripped from behind on a breakaway resulting with a penalty shot. He put the shot in five-hole through Surge Goalie Ryan Senft legs. The final Ice Bears goal came on a deflection, shot by Mark Van Vilet, which squeezed past Senft.

The third period saw no scoring for by either team. The Ice Bears failed to register a single shot, but they still won 3-1.

Knoxville hits the road for the next five games. Their next home game is Nov. 27 at the Civic Coliseum.
