Tune into popular country music radio station 107.7 WIVK at night, and radio personality Jack Ryan will be filling the air waves. Ryan has been at WIVK for eight years, and out of those eight years, he has been nominated for a Country Music Award "Broadcast Personality of the Year" five times.
"Each time you get nominated it truly is an honor," Ryan said.
This particular award is given to four people nationwide each year, one for each market. The competition for the award is tough, with personalities competing against others' radio shows all across the United States. This year competition came from Wichita, Kan., Omaha, Neb. and Syracuse, N.Y.
To be considered for the award, the station will submit its work, and then judges from across the country choose only five shows to be considered for the award. The judges consider elements such as community involvement, the ratings of the show and how the show sounds, both technically and the entertainment value. Shows from WIVK have won this award seven times.
"You really want to win," Ryan said. "You want the trophy."

Although Ryan doesn't have the award in his hands yet, he said since he found out, he has been very excited. This year, after being one of the five nominated for the past four years, Ryan considered not even trying for a nomination.
"With the competition this year, I didn't think I was going to win," he said.
Ryan has earned several awards during his career at WIVK, and this year, bringing back the trophy for broadcast personality of the year is something he has put effort into for years.
He had a 20 percent chance of winning for the last four years. The fifth time had to be the time to win. The judges decided his show would be considered as a nomination, and then the CMA program directors decided Ryan to be the winner.
The call came to Ryan from country music artist Jamey Johnson, and although Ryan doesn't know who will be presenting the award, he did mention that last year the presenter was Sugarland. Artists of that same caliber will be expected to present the award again this year.
The award show does not air until Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. on ABC, but he is anxious to head to Nashville for the event. There will be hundreds of country music stars attending the event. Ryan is looking forward to talking with them at the different events during the two days he will be in Nashville.
To hear Ryan's show, tune into 107.7 Monday-Friday between 7 p.m. and midnight.
