9:28 p.m. - Tennessee wins 97-58. Thankfully, another exhibition season has came and gone. Tennessee collected wins over LMU and North Alabama. Tennessee's official season opener is Friday night (Nov. 13) at 9 p.m. against Austin Peay.
9:25 p.m. - Female cheerleaders being held in the air by male cheerleaders (whether it be with one or two hands) makes me nervous. I'm pretty sure I'm within fall distance if such an accident were to occur. Anyway, UT leads 97-51.
9:18 p.m. - Scotty Hopson can jump high. Hopson's dunk (which seems like his 4,000th of the game) gives UT an 87-51 lead.
9:12 p.m. - Bobby Maze's jumper from the left elbow gives Tennessee an 81-44 lead, its biggest of the game.
Lincoln Memorial served as the first game of the 2007 exhibition season, the first game in the newly renovated Thompson-Boling Arena. A crowd of 18,840 fans packed the arena to see the finished renovations.
The Railsplitters also served as the first opponent for the opening of Alumni Memorial Gym on Dec. 17, 1932. Tennessee's 41-18 win over the Railsplitters was seen by 400 people in the 3,200 seat gymnasium. The gym was voted best facility in the South in 1932. The building has since been remodeled for academic use, known as Alumni Memorial Building.
8:54 p.m. - The Vols lead 62-36 with 15:27 remaining in the second half. Assuming the Vols can beat Austin Peay and UNC Asheville in their first two regular-season games, Bruce Pearl will become the second fastest Tennessee coach to reach 100 wins with the Vols. Pearl, currently sitting on 98 wins in 134 attempts, would trail only John Mauer, who reached 100 wins in just 131 career games.
For comparison's sake, it took Ray Mears 141 games to reach 100 (currently the second fastest). Don DeVoe (the third fastest) needed 157 games to win his 100th with the Vols.
8:44 p.m. - Tyler Smith leads the Vols at halftime with 11 points. Scotty Hopson has 10 points. Skylar McBee has six points off of two made 3-point baskets. Tennessee made 18 of 40 shots from the field in the first half, and made three of 13 from beyond the 3-point line. The Vols shot 73.7% from the free-throw line in the first half, making 14 of 19 attempts.
8:29 p.m. - McBee hit another three as time expired in the first half. Tennessee leads 53-31. Barring a second-half comeback from LMU, it looks like Tennessee may escape any LeMoyne-Syracuse 'David over Goliath' upset. Or would this one be considered an 'Honest Abe over Goliath' upset?
8:26 p.m. - Skylar McBee, a walk-on from Rutledge High School in Rutledge, Tenn., seems to have been adopted as a crowd favorite. McBee just made a 3-pointer, much to the Thompson-Boling Arena crowd's approval. McBee was a high school stand out at Rutledge and had scholarship offers to play small college basketball else where. Instead, he chose to walk on at Tennessee. The Vols lead 50-31.
8:21 p.m. - Tennessee's Cameron Tatum and LMU's Justin Allen (both from Lithonia, Ga.) are good friend and training partners during the offseason. You only get this kind of information during exhibition games. Yawn.
8:19 p.m. - An intentional foul was just called against LMU. Make that 20 team fouls, one intentional foul and one technical foul. All called within the first 18 minutes of the first half. This officiating crew is earning their paychecks. UT leads 44-22.
8:17 p.m. - Scotty Hopson just made a 3-point jumper from the right wing. And the ball didn't even touch the rafters. Hopson must have done some serious work on the arch of his shot over the off-season. No more rainbows, or so it appears.
8:12 p.m. - With just over six minutes remaining in the first half, Tennessee leads 35-22. Both teams are in the bonus. And this is an exhibition game. Wait, what? Something doesn't make sense here.
7:56 p.m. - Lincoln Memorial's mascot is technically the Railsplitters, but they're actual mascot is about an eight-foot tall Abraham Lincoln. The mascot is complete with the beard and top hat. But, for historical purposes, shouldn't there be a hole in the top hat? Just saying.
7:48 p.m. - With 14 combined fouls between the teams before the first time out (which came with 15:32 remaining in the first half), this hardly seems to be playing like an exhibition game. Maybe someone should inform the officials. Tennessee leads 14-9.
7:28 p.m. - Welcome to my (not quite) live in-game blog from Tennessee's second and final exhibition of the season against the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters.
Tennessee and LMU have met 16 times on the hardwood prior tonight, with UT holding a 16-0 record against the Railsplitters. LMU resides in Harrogate, Tenn. and is a member of the South Atlantic Conference.
The last meeting between these two teams came on Nov. 5, 2007, a 124-61 win for the Vols. Tennessee was led by Ryan Childress with 19 points and Tyler Smith, who had 17 points.
An historical point to note for LMU is a 43-39 win over Duke in 1940. The win serves as the only "major Division I school" win in their history, this according to the LMU Sports Information Department.
The loss was only the second loss (and first non-conference loss) for the Blue Devils at 'Indoor Stadium' (now known as Cameron Indoor Stadium). In transit from Harrogate to Durham, N.C., many of the LMU uniforms were lost. Then Duke head coach Eddie Cameron (Cameron Indoor Stadium's namesake) was nice enough to loan the Railsplitters Duke's road uniforms for the contest, though. File that one away in the Random Information folder.
