The Tennessee Men's and Women's cross country teams competed in the SEC Championships on Saturday in Oxford, Miss.
Senior Jackie Areson continued her role as team leader with a third-place individual finish, earning All-SEC honors. The Lady Vols finished second in the 6,000 meter race.
Areson was satisfied with her performance, but her ultimate goal was to win.
"I was hoping for my first SEC win, but I ran really tough, and I know I ran as best as I could on that day. It wasn't what I wanted, but I'm happy with top three," Areson said.
Two additional Lady Vols, junior Brittany Sheffey and senior Katie Van Horn, earned All-SEC honors by finishing 13th and 14th, respectively.
The top-five was rounded off by junior Chanelle Price who finished 18th and senior Phoebe Wright who finished 34th.
Though the unranked Lady Vols were beaten by number No. 5 Florida, their victory in a close battle with the third-place team, No. 29 Arkansas, should move them up in the rankings.
On the Men's side junior Michael Spooner led the Vols around the 8,000-meter course, finishing 11th and earning All-SEC honors.
Freshman Leoule Degfae had a notable performance. He finished third for the team and 33rd overall to earn a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team.
Junior Peter Sigilai, senior Mike Brodsky, and junior Steve Fassino completed the Vols' top-five with 22nd, 34th and 43rd place finishes, respectively.
The Vols will look forward to redeeming themselves when both the Men and Women's teams travel to the NCAA South Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Nov. 14.
