The Student Animal Legal Defense Fund for the College of Law sponsored its annual costume contest for dogs and their owners at Circle Park Sunday.
I want to do something to at least prevent animal cruelty. Karrah Leary, law student involved with SALDF
For the third year, the SALDF raised awareness to help the Humane Society by hosting the annual dog costume contest, which included other activities like a presentation from the Smokies Club and an appearance by Q93 radio, the event's sponsor.
Alicia Teubert, who works for SALDF and is the coordinator for the dog costume contest, said that because of the economy, too many animals are being given to the Humane Society and she hopes that the event will "give people an incentive to give" to the shelter.
"I want to do something to at least prevent animal cruelty," Karrah Leary, a law student who is also involved with the SALDF, said.
At the event, dogs were dressed up in costumes that included Robin Hood, a pirate, a princess and several had on UT jerseys. Smokey IX even made an appearance to top the afternoon off.
