If you are looking for something to do this summer, UT is offering a look at the night sky. The Department of Physics and Astronomy offers a free view of the night sky from the roof of the Alvin Nielsen Physics Building.
Viewings are available the first and third Friday of each month until further notice. The next viewings take place July 3 and 17, 2009, and begin at 9:30 p.m.
2009 has been declared the International Year of Astronomy and sensitive cameras are attached to the telescopes. Many faint deep sky objects can easily been seen. Parking is available in the University Center Parking Garage, and handicapped parking is available on the Hill on Circle Drive off Cumberland Avenue.
The department Web site has more information on what can be seen each month, and a downloadable sky map for easy identification.
