Valentine's Day can be an utter nightmare when seen through the eyes of well, anyone. Couples fight over it, single men are scared of it, and we all know the single women dread it. In fact, it is safe to say that the only groups who actually enjoy Valentine's Day are the advertisers and business owners. So with all the stigma placed on this bothersome day, what's a single female like yourself to do?
So with all the stigma placed on this bothersome day, what's a single female like yourself to do?
In response to this question, I have compiled a list of fun activities and ideas that can be done alone or with the other single women in your life. Some of these events may take a little planning, but planning is a often a good thing.
First, wake up and smell the coffee. Since this Feb. 14 is on a Saturday, pampering can begin at the sound of the morning alarm--or better yet, don't even set an alarm. Take the time to read the morning paper, surf the net, or even watch morning cartoons as you enjoy a healthy breakfast and of course, a great cup of coffee.
Before you make your way across town, hook your iPod up to your car system so you can listen to the fun Valentine's Day playlist that you so carefully made the night before.
Your first stop of the day should be your favorite salon and spa for a little bit of heaven. This is your time for a head-to-toe makeover. Start with a relaxing manicure and pedicure, and then treat yourself to the facial. No spa day would be complete without a massage now, would it? After the sure-to-be-divine massage, it is time to try out a new hairstyle or at the very least, freshen up the one you've already got.
Once your time at the salon is over, it should be time for lunch. Here is where your friends come into the picture. Meet up with your friends for a casual lunch at a spunky café or organic deli, anyplace where the atmosphere is not too fancy, but more grown up than any restaurant with a childrens' play area.
Another tip to better the lunch-time atmosphere is to not spend this particular lunch with your not-single girlfriends. There's no need to bring them along on your perfect singles' Valentine's Day.
As your perfect singles' Valentine's Day comes to an end, do not forget to look around and see all the friends that you have and remember the good times you have had with them. Also, while at lunch, make plans with your girlfriends to hit the town for dinner and a movie or drinks and dancing away the night. If enough of your girls agree on the plans that you'd have a decent group, then let the shopping commence. Base your choice of stores and outfits on the prior decisions made about your night. Naturally, you should buy a hot new outfit accordingly.
If dinner and a movie is the best choice, buy an outfit with a sassy but hassle-free appearance. If you and your gals decided to be daring and go for the drinks and dancing, then find an equally daring and sexy new outfit that screams confidence.
While you are at the mall, feel free to go ahead and do a little extra shopping, if you'd like. We all know how exciting it is to add a new throw pillow to you couch or bed, find some new scented candles to decorate a side table or even find some new wall art to hang in your living room. And just to be that girl, be sure to pick up some inexpensive, matching picture frames. You will be able to frame the best picture of the night that includes you and all your girls and give it as a gift the next time you hang out. That way, you all can be sure to remember this night!
As your perfect singles' Valentine's Day comes to an end, do not forget to look around and see all the friends that you have and remember the good times that you have had with them. Remember, your happiness is not dependent on a significant other, flowers or gifts but rather, your happiness is dependent on the attitude you have when you start off your day.
So wake up this Saturday with an effort to maintain a confident smile and be ready to take on the world, and I will guarantee the results gained will be more than worth the effort.
What do you do on Valentine's Day if you don't have that special someone?
