University of Tennessee
The Tennessee Ice Vols stand atop the Southeastern Conference coming off a weekend split with Kentucky. Tennessee is 17-6-1 and currently ranked fourth heading into the post season.
In its final home game of the season Friday night, Tennessee gave its largest crowd ever a great show. After trailing 4-1 midway through the second period, the Ice Vols score five unanswered goals to win 6-4.
Senior Joe Williams led the team this year with 70 total points during the regular season. Williams had 29 goals.
Junior Kevin Jones led the team with 30 goals in 22 games.
Tennessee heads into the South Regional Tournament this weekend as a two seed. The Ice Vols will play Christopher Newport Friday night in Atlanta.
If Tennessee defeats Christopher Newport and wins the following game they will play on Saturday, they will earn a trip to the National Championships in Rochester, New York.
Knoxville Ice Bears
Knoxville's professional hockey team is on its way to another Southern Professional Hockey League regular season championship. The Ice Bears are 29-11-5 and currently sit 15 points ahead of Richmond and Huntsville.
Kevin Swider leads the team and the SPHL with 73 points in 42 games. Swider leads the league with 46 assists and sits third in the league with 27 goals.
Tim Vitek sits second in the SPHL with 58 points. The duo has led Knoxville to a huge lead in the standings with only 15 games to go in the regular season.
The Ice Bears play at Huntsville on Thursday night and at Richmond on Friday night. They will host Twin City on Saturday, with the game starting at 7:35 p.m. at the Knoxville Coliseum.
