A late season matchup of undefeated teams saw Gumdrops and Lollipops Mens defeat Grundle Mansion 33-13 Tuesday night, making them 5-0 going into the playoffs.
Both teams scored quickly to open the game and the score remained tied at seven at halftime.
Mansion used a wide receiver reverse pass to get a 32-yard gain for their first play; however, an interception would end their drive and set up Gumdrops' first touchdown.
Mansion quarterback John Trusler would quickly make an adjustment and led his team 68 yards down the field, including a 41-yard score.
Gumdrops quarterback Nic Gonzales was efficient through the air, going 9-for-14 for 190 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Team captain Travis Kmita attributes team chemistry to Gonzales' big night.
"We played together for so long, we all grew up in the same town," Kmita said. "We played together for about ten years so we all know exactly what we're going to do.
"We don't ever run plays, we don't ever huddle. We just go out and get open and we know if we hit the open spots, then he (Gonzales) throws it to us."
Kmita also had two interceptions on the evening and gives his team's pass rush the credit for the takeaways.
"It starts with our defensive line," he said. "We have the two best rushers and you put the pressure on them and they just lob it up."
Trusler was 12-for-23 with 164 yards passing with one touchdown pass and two interceptions. He credits Lollipops' pressure for his rough outing.
"I didn't make very good decisions, I should have looked shorter instead of trying to force it down the field," Trusler said.
Grundle Mansion ends the regular season at 4-1, however still qualifies for the playoffs.
