The Black Cultural Programming Committee will host actress, director, choreographer and producer Debbie Allen on Monday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. as part of its Legends Lectures series.
The event, entitled "An Image of Inspiration," will take place in the Cox Auditorium of the Alumni Memorial Building.
BCPC's graduate adviser Dawn Norwood explained why the committee chose Allen.
"She stands out as a person who made an impact on the African American community and beyond," Norwood said. "We recognize her as a great achiever.
"The event will be culturally enriching, she said. "It is a program anyone can draw inspiration from."
The evening hopes to be uplifting, exciting and inspirational, she said.
Joe Tolbert, a junior in journalism, said he is excited about the event.
"This event is interesting to me because I am a performing artist and it will be great to hear stories of experience from a person who is on a level that I want to get to," he said.
Allen is a 3-time Emmy winner for Outstanding Choreography. She was recently appointed by President George W. Bush as a member of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
The BCPC was founded in 1979 and aims to make students aware of other cultures on campus.
