Hola! Festival celebrates Knoxville's Hispanic community

The HoLa Hora Latina organization hosted the Hola! Festival on Sept. 27 on Market Square.  The festival celebrated Hispanic Heritage month with a full day of activities showcasing Hispanic culture. Tennessee Journalist talked with representatives from the Nicaragua and Panama tables.

Guests also enjoyed food samples ranging from tamales to arroz con pollo as well as other heritage tables featuring the cultural diversity of Hispanic countries.  Local non-profit organizations had tables with information on Knoxville's Hispanic community and volunteering opportunities.  Musical performances included Salsa, a Mariachi Trio and headliner Vientos del Pueblo.   

HoLa Hora Latina is a non-profit, cultural and educational organization. Its mission is to "create a sense of place among Latinos in the Knoxville area and to build cultural and communication bridges with the community at large."

Hola! Festival Activities

  • Children's Area- Guests made their own "charango" (musical instrument) and other crafts, including face painting, balloon animals and much more.
  • Food Tables- Guests sampled from a wide variety of delicacies including empanadas, tamales, arroz con pollo and pinchos.
  • Heritage Tables- These tables were dedicated to presenting the cultural richness and diversity of our countries. Children were able to interact with the Heritage Tables through a Passport Activity. They also picked up a passport and "travel" through Latin America and Spain, learning about the different countries.
