Benjamin Flowers, assistant professor of architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology, will discuss the aesthetic and cultural implications of the birth of the modern skyscraper Monday, Sept. 15, at 5:30 p.m. in the Ewing Gallery at the Art and Architecture Building.

The presentation, "Constructing the Modern Skyscraper: The Architecture and Ideaology of the Manhattan Skyline," will highlight Flowers' research projects, which focus on how architecture relates to us in other aspects of life.

One aspect of the research deals with exploring the political and cultural values that building a skyscraper has on a society, and the second deals with race and space within the field of architecture.

The Ewing Gallery's current exhibit features the photography of Eugene de Slignac, who took photos of New York City during its rapid construction phase of the early 20th century.

Admission is free, and a reception will follow the lecture.
