The Panhellenic Council's "Week of the Woman" and the CPC Women's Coordinating Council have joined together to sponsor the event "Discovering the Truth About Beauty in Popular Culture."

Camille Cooper, a former actress and model, will deliver a presentation on Monday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the University Center Auditorium.

Cooper will provide a look at the media and their obsessions with beauty and weight. She will use before-and-after slides that illustrate how editing such as retouching, lighting and camera filters, can change a person's appearance and cause a distorted image of beauty.

Cooper hopes women see the media's standards of beauty and how this fabrication should not be the basis of how women portray themselves.

The event is free and open to the public.

Tips for improving your body image:

  • Eat healthy - it promotes healthy skin and hair along with strong bones.
  • Exercise regularly - it boosts self-esteem, self-image and energy levels.
  • Get plenty of rest - it will decrease your stress level.

A healthy body is not always linked to appearance. Changing your body image means changing the way you think about your body. Healthy lifestyle choices will help improve your body image.
