Pregame: Before the season began, I was really looking forward to this matchup. Georgia was the preseason No. 1,  and the Vols were optimistic about their chances of competing in the SEC East under the radar. Five games into the season, UT is struggling to find the end zone with a 2-3 record, and Georgia is coming off an embarrassing loss to Alabama two weeks ago 41-30.

What do the Vols need to do to win? The defense is going to have to play its best game of the season. Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno is capable scoring every time he touches the ball.

The offense MUST be efficient and keep that Georgia offense on the sideline. Nick Stephens goes on the road for just his second career start, and Sanford Stadium will not be kind. It will be interesting to watch how offensive coordinator Dave Clawson uses his weapons with Stephens at the helm.

The Vols have won the last two meetings in this series by at least 18 points, and this is a must-win game to salvage the season.

First Quarter 7:16: The first play for the Vols was a good one with Stephens hooking up with Gerald Jones for a 25-yard gain. However, the drive didn't last long. Georgia got the ball and kept the Tennessee defense off guard with a nice mix of pass and run plays. This might be a long day.

First Quarter 3:13: The Vols go three-and-out on their next drive taking virtually no time off the clock and giving their defense no chance to breathe. Another drive, another score for the Bulldogs, but this drive only resulted in a field goal. The Dawgs had a sure touchdown when quarterback Matthew Stafford found freshman receiver AJ Green alone in the end zone but Green dropped the pass.

With a young quarterback on the road, Tennessee needs to run the ball more to establish some physicality. The running game could help Stephens get into the flow of the game when he drops back to pass.

End of First Quarter: New drive, same result as UT goes three up, three down again. Stephens missed a corner blitz from his blindside, and Prince Miller gets the sack. Miller almost takes Britton Colquitt's punt to the house on the next play, showing his versatility for the Bulldogs. Communication is the key if the Vols want to keep their new quarterback healthy against a physical defense.

Second Quarter 12:54: Georgia goes up 13-0 with another field goal by Blair Walsh. Stafford and the Georgia offense did some extensive film study over the past two weeks. They are attacking Dennis Rogan for big gains. When Stafford drops back to throw in the red zone, he has thrown fade routes at DeAngelo Willingham.

The defense is doing its best to keep the game close, and now the offense has to score if they want to remain in it by halftime.

Second Quarter 5:30: Robert Ayers just made the biggest play of the game so far for the Vols. It's always funny to see a defensive lineman get an interception. Too bad he didn't have room to run. Linemen with the football always get a laugh. Ayers' pick makes it 10 on the year for the defense.

Second Quarter 2:24: Stephens hooks up with Denarius Moore for the second week in a row for a long pass play, 60 yards to be exact. Stephens finds Jones in the end zone for the first touchdown, making it 13-7 in favor of Georgia.

Good execution by the offense to finally take advantage of a defensive turnover this season. Let's hope this can start some momentum for the offense.

Halftime: Apparently the Tennessee defense forgot to cover receiver Mohamed Massaquoi as he scores his first touchdown on the day with 10 seconds left in the first half.

UT lost the momentum it worked so hard to get and is down by 13 instead of six at the break. It's becoming more clear that Tennessee doesn't have the athletes to compete with Georgia. What's becoming even more clear is the distance between the two coaching staffs.

Questionable calls by the officials have definitely helped Georgia on a couple of their drives. The Bulldogs get the ball after halftime and if they score on their opening drive, consider this one over.

Third Quarter 7:53: Leave it to Eric Berry to make a play on defense and get the ball in the hands of the offense. Berry picks off a Stafford pass in the end zone and returns it 54 yards. That's Berry's ninth interception in the last two years. Let's see what the offense does with another opportunity.

Third Quarter 5:38: Stephens takes advantage of the turnover as he finds an open Lucas Taylor in the back of the end zone. It seems like Stephens is coming into his own as the quarterback of the team.

End of Third Quarter: Despite only having seven first downs to UGA's 23, the Vols find themselves down by only six points, 20-14. The most telling stat of the game, 93 rushing yards by Georgia to UT's nine. The lack of ground game has definitely hurt the Vols in the time of possession category, keeping the Vol defense on the field longer than they need to be.

Fourth Quarter 2:48: The Vols' defense stands strong once again holing the Dawgs to a field goal making the score 26-14. The defense was on the field for 10-plus minutes on that drive, and you could see them sucking wind.

It's hard to see the offense overcome this two-touchdown deficit with 2:48 to play. They haven't done anything up to this point, and with the pressure on, I don't see them answering the bell.

End of Game: 26-14 loss. The message boards will be on fire this week along with the rest of campus this week, calling for Phillip Fulmer's head. Unlike the past two years, Tennessee was unable to beat the Georgia Bulldogs. Lack of offense has hurt this team all year, and it will continue. There isn't much else to say right now. I'll wait until tomorrow to vent.

It's time to watch some real offenses tonight as LSU's stingy defense takes on Florida's Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin and Oklahoma St. and Missouri faceoff.
