Dramatic changes

Fall marks the transition from the summer to the winter. The word “fall” has its origins in the old Germanic languages, and has the meaning “fall from a height”, which are exactly what the leaves do in this season.

Its fall in Knoxville, and the nature has turned into a stunning scenery showing the colors fight of attention. While everything comes to life in the spring, the fall is the season where the nature prepares it self for the coming winter and makes room for new growing life. Most people in the U.S. are used to the changes in the nature, but not everyone.

Non-existing season

The fall marks the transition from summer into winter, or, at least in the U.S. it does. Juan Manuel Alvarado (20) from Panama is one of the students at The University of Tenneesse who appreciates the fall, because the season is non-existing in his home country.

-The weather in Panama is hot, and then I mean really hot all year long. We don’t have the same seasons like you have here in the U.S. In Panama we have a dry season and a wet season. Right now it’s raining almost every day, but compared to Knoxville its nothing. Back home it may rain for 20 minutes and then stop, but when it rains here in Knoxville it can rain three days in a row, Alvarado said.

Pretty fall

Nevertheless he enjoys the fall in Knoxville, and even though the temperature in Panama is high all year through, it doesn’t bother him that it’s getting colder here.

-Its nice here in the fall, and the colors are so pretty. In Panama it stays green all year through. I like the switches between the seasons, meaning the weather and the nature changes a lot, so it doesn’t get boring. When it’s really cold you can look forward to the things that’s nice to do in the next season, and vice versa. I have been skiing for many years, so the cold weather is not a big deal for me. I like that its cold, he said.

Prefer hot weather

Alvarado still admits that the cold weather affects him a little bit.

-It can be a little depressing in the fall, though. I’m okay with the cold; It is all the rain that bothers me. Even though it rains over 200 days out of 365 in Panama it doesn’t last so long. You can always go outside afterwards. The fall is beautiful here, but I prefer hot weather so I can go to the beach. When the temperature is below 30 Celsius it is cold for me, Alvarado said.

But still, he will not go with anything else than his shorts.

-Its more comfortable, and I never get cold on my legs, Alvarado said.

Incredible scenery

If you are one of those thinking the fall just is a cold and rainy season, remember every season has its charm. Both the nature and the weather in Knoxville changes really fast, so go outside and look at the beautiful art of the fall.
