Artist and sculptor Diane Simpson presented a slide-show portfolio of her work, titled "Body/Builder," at the McCarty Auditorium Monday night. The presentation was followed by a reception celebrating the opening of "Concurrent" exhibit at the Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture, which features work by Simpson.

"I'm interested in how clothing styles reflect architecture in certain periods," Simpson said. "Patterns are reflected in clothing, as well as structures."

Simpson sketched blue prints for future works of art and brought her photographs and drawings to life.

Simpson's work includes sculptors influenced by Elizabethan bonnets, 17th century clothing styles, Japanese armor and photographs from the early 20th century.

"It's usually pieces of clothing that gets me going," she said. "I...cut out images from magazines or even newspapers all the time if I see something I like."

Simpson's work has been featured in numerous exhibits and venues, including the Fassbender Gallery of Fine Art in Chicago.
