Tennessee sophomores Ramar Smith and Duke Crews will no longer be a part of Tennessee basketball.
The Knoxville News Sentinel has reported that coach Pearl spoke to media before the Vols annual awards banquet and revealed the news.
The coach vaguely referenced numerous shortcomings over a period of time as explanation, but said the two dismissals were unrelated.
Sources withing the program have indicated the departures were due to a combination of drug related and academic issuses, according to the News Sentinel.
Smith's absence leaves a void at point guard for the Vols, after they shuffled between options last year.
The Vols will likely look to incoming freshman Daniel West and current UT sophomore J.P. Prince to compete for the job.
Tennessee has also extended an offer to 6-3 point guard Bobby Maze of Kansas Community College, according to Hoopsreport.com.
